Sadly, our fledgling friend here (a dunnock) flew into a window and was slightly dazed. It was checked to make sure it was nothing more than that and placed in some bushes to ensure none of the normal garden raptors could take advantage. The bird flew away none the worse for wear after a few minutes into the beautiful Surrey countryside we all know and love.
The proverb ‘A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush’ springs to mind. It’s a historic saying, with the earliest documented English usage in the 15th century, although it has far older origins. The proverb warns against unnecessary risks – it is better to hold on to something you have, rather than risk losing it for the mere potential of gaining something bigger or better.
The most valuable commodities that we each hold are invariably time and health. Time is always being spent; although the way we use this commodity varies from person to person. Health on the other hand is something that may be dictated to us by our genes, upbringing, lifestyle, fitness levels and many other factors. A valuable commodity indeed and one that needs to be maintained, avoiding unnecessary risks.
Careful management and care
Taking this further, careful management and care of new or existing conditions is an important part of the commodity that is our health. The day-to-day trials of life are significant, irrespective of the events of the last year, and now might be the time to address the physical issues being felt.
