Continuing professional development: lifelong growth in physiotherapy knowledge and experience

You might anticipate that delivering good physiotherapy care takes years of training, practice and experience. This is normally the position for all medical/care professionals.

As you might also expect, learning and training is ongoing, and this is why we maintain a continuing professional development (sometimes known as CPD) programme to keep up to date with the latest developments, techniques and understanding. Online courses, seminars and the like are great refreshers of knowledge, whilst others offer new insights into topical issues in the physiotherapy care world.

We recently attended a day seminar in London focused on spinal issues, with some of the discussions investigating the following topics:

· Cervical sports injuries

· Adult deformity - scoliosis: assessment and treatment

· Pars defects

· Osteoporotic fractures

· Adolescent scoliosis

· Lumbar disc degeneration – sciatica & stenosis

· Managing persistent back pain

This is not an exhaustive list, but certainly provides a flavour of the wide range of conditions that may need to be considered during the physiotherapy care process. Referral on to a specialist for some of the areas noted above would be required.

Fascinating discussions and presentations, and great to share knowledge and understanding as the profession of physiotherapy continues to evolve.

If you would like to know more about physiotherapy care, or some of the topics touched on above, then please do get in contact with Life Made Simple Physiotherapy. However your need for physiotherapy or acupuncture within physiotherapy arises, we look forward to helping you with your needs, tailored to your personal circumstances.
