2021 has started and, sadly, so has the necessity for another national lockdown for the coming few weeks. Please stay safe!
With any festive decorations mostly packed away, some have spent far too long on the sofa over the last two weeks or so, eating and drinking what they want. Sure, the after-lunch walks helped to stretch the frame and muscles, but as the light faded in the afternoon, the ambition to keep supple and fit may well have waned.
With our New Year’s resolutions made, we are all looking forward to what we all hope is a better year, lockdowns and vaccines permitting. Perhaps renewed vigour in looking after body and mind are – hopefully – towards the top of any New Year’s resolutions. Physiotherapy services can continue during the lockdown to help you reach your goals.
At the beginning of a year, it is easy to race off from the starting block with a punishing health and fitness regime, only to lose momentum when reality gets in the way and human nature (and possibly some stresses and strains from the unaccustomed exercise) start to nudge you towards the sofa again.
A structured and more realistic approach to health and wellbeing is more likely to be sustainable – any fitness routine needs to fit into daily life and to suit your physical capabilities. Not everyone can, or should, run a marathon, and trying to force your body to achieve unrealistic goals can be unproductive and often damaging, both mentally and physically.
When considering a suitable programme of activity, it is sensible to take advice from professionals to ensure that your planned routine is safe and effective for your own circumstances. Physiotherapy can be an important part of this process, in terms of planning your activities, maintaining your physical condition and treating any issues if they arise.
However you choose to spend it, we hope you have a good start to the New Year, even in lockdown, and we are ready to help with your plans for 2021.
