It is great to feature guest blogs and a big thank you to Dan Fox and Guildford Hockey Club for an update at the start of this year’s hockey season. Life Made Simple Physiotherapy is proud to be one of their local sponsors.
Now that the season is underway at Guildford Hockey Club, here is an update from the club’s Director of Hockey; Double Olympian, Dan Fox, who shares what is new for the 2024-2025 season.
Record numbers
This is a record season for Guildford Hockey Club; over 900 junior members, 21 adult teams, 180 coaches, team managers, and assistants, and a community programme delivering hockey in 22 schools. To see the thriving club at its best join us on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to watch National League hockey with the Men’s and Women’s 1st teams or join on a Friday night when the bar and kitchen are buzzing.
National League success
The Women’s 1st team gained their first three points in an away trip to Exeter as they took part in their first season of National League Division 1 hockey. Led by former Great Britain goalkeeper, Rose Thomas, the team looks in a good position to push on from their promotion earlier in 2024. Meanwhile the Men’s 1st team have passed 6 goals three times in their opening four matches of the National League West Conference season, currently sitting top of the table after four matches.
Junior stars
Eight GHC juniors represented England and Scotland this summer. Goalkeeper, James Carleton, is currently in Malaysia with the Great Britain U21 team at the Sultan of Johor Cup, and the junior talent programmes have a further 140 players training through the season alongside their regular junior hockey.
Friday night success
Come (a lot of) rain or shine, more than 500 juniors are playing hockey each Friday night (our busiest night of the week) and we are delighted to offer hockey for players of all ages and levels of experience. To try it out visit https://www.guildfordhockeyclub.co.uk and find out when the next session is for your age group. Over October, half term holiday courses for members and non-members are available to book here https://GHCHOCKEY.as.me/
Supporters
A big thank you to the supporters and partners that help Guildford to be the club that it is, and we are looking forward to driving the club forward this season and into the future.
