The last of the bank holidays before Christmas has gone and the summer is drawing to a close. It’s been a bit mixed weather-wise if we are honest, although we hope some happy memories to share and reflect upon as we head back to school, university, work and alike as the season changes to autumn.
Memories are in part what influences who we are and are part of our overall health. Part of our DNA if you like, where experiences and understanding of all things individual to us shape who and where we are today. And health, both physically and mentally, are paramount to our wellbeing, and in many cases those around us. Memories on personal health may spread across a range of good, and not so good, fit, active, to suffering illness. And each teaches us a lesson and what we do and don’t like and what suits each of us as individuals.
Perhaps a bit more movement, exercise and sport?
Looking back, hopefully to look forward, if you could reach back to a particular age range in your life (and that’s for you to decide), what would you tell yourself with regards to your health and fitness? This might have been some decades ago, and you may have a few words of wisdom for your younger self, with perhaps a bit more exercise and sport, and a more cautious approach to whatever you were achieving, or aiming to achieve, at the time.
Reflection and indeed hindsight are exact sciences, but the life journey you have is not over. Getting close to a life junction, such as retirement as an example, in whatever format that takes, is simply a point of change. And we all know that life changes all the time. We have all had different experiences in life that have made us who we are. If we think forward, the likelihood of longevity for an additional 25 or 30 years from a normal retirement age is certainly possible as an average, based on the clever actuaries who calculate these things. In principle, an individual age 55 or so has largely the same opportunity as they did when they were many decades younger to maintain and where possible enhance their health.
What words of wisdom would you give yourself?
If this has got you thinking, then what words of wisdom would you give yourself? This time you might take medical, fitness and physiotherapy advice and care to keep you supple, mobile and agile. Perhaps something you would not have done all those years ago. There are many great local services to help both your physical and mental wellbeing and some of these have been featured in our guest blogs. Perhaps take a look again when you have a moment and please do mention us if you make contact with a specialist.
